Family Threads News - November 2024

Family Threads Quilt Shop banner

Happy fall, y’all!

Here we go getting ready for the holidays, there are simply not enough days for me to get everything done. Those who know and love me certainly understand that I’ll do what I can!

Thanksgiving is late this year which just makes Christmas pop up faster. Be sure to check our holiday schedule.

November 11-16 we’re having a fat quarter sale! Our fat quarter price is still only $3.50 each and with 20% off it’s a great deal! We have a great assortment and have been busy cutting and curating bundles.

We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and it's ok to have a second slice of pie.

Fat Quarter Sale!

Monday, Nov 11 - Saturday Nov 16

  • 20% OFF all already cut fat quarters
    AND fat quarter bundles

Need a little starch?

Best Press Spray Starch comes in so many wonderful scents and we have them all. Lavender Fields, Citrus Grove, Caribbean Beach, Rose, Peaches, Cherry and Linen Fresh. And for those that don't want any of those we have Scent Free.

These are the small 6 ounce bottles for when you just need to starch a little something. Or maybe you'd like one of each for a wonderful starch bouquet.

Holiday Gatherings

Need a space to host a stitching holiday gathering?

Our classroom might be the perfect place. Just give us a call to see if it's available. If it is, we'll pencil you in!

We can't really host potlucks, but there are a number of restuarants in town. (Here's a list, but do call and check with the restuarant.)

Getting Aligned

When threading your machine, does it have a needle threader mechanism? Here's what you can do to make sure it works correctly.

  • When first threading your machine, lift your presser foot so that you can pull the thread freely
  • If you have it a needle up/down button, press it so that the needle is now in the up position (even if the needle was in the up position to begin with, it's a good idea to still do this)
  • Put the presser foot down
  • Use the needle threader to thread your needle

Why you might ask?
Using the needle up/down button should perfectly align the needle eye. If you don't, it's easy to damage the small mechanism - bending it or even breaking it.

Thank you to Machine Medics for the tip!

BOOK OUR CLASSROOM

Need a place to sew or meet up with your stitching friends?

During our regular shop hours (M-F 10-5, Sat 10-3), and when it's not in use, we've started renting out our classroom.

We have TWO different options:

  • $5/person gets you a seat in the room
  • $50/day gets you (your group) the room exclusively

What we have:

  • Chairs for up to 10 people
  • Dedicated cutting and ironing stations
  • A few standard rulers to share

You bring your own supplies/sewing machine. You can bring lunch or visit one of the town's restaurants.

Booking our classroom for $5 is for the use of our classroom, not our staff.

We are more than happy to answer a question (or two),
but we cannot give an impromptu personalized quilt lesson.

If you need more help,
please consider signing up for Aneda's monthly one-on-one session QUILTING/OPEN SEW.

WORD OF THE MONTH

SISYPHEAN

She finished her quilt top and decided to add a large border to perfectly compliment all her painstakingly pieced blocks. But was this a sisyphean search? Not if she came to Family Threads.

or, a more festive one...

The untangling the huge ball of Christmas lights seems to be a sisyphean task.

DEFINITION
Denoting or relating to a task that can never be completed.

Each week our good friends at Machine Medics come to pick up/drop off your sewing machines.

Each week Luis (with Karen's help sometimes) brings us a word and we have to figure out the definition. It's now become a source of entertainment we thought we'd share.

We're in our 15th year of business.
Thank you for supporting Family Threads Quilt Shop
and making this all possible.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
