Family Threads News - July 2025

Family Threads Quilt Shop banner

YEHAW!
The Salinas Rodeo is just around the bend, and we’ve got a couple of cowboy panels that would look mighty fine as a wall quilt—or cozy up as a throw on the couch! I’m stitching these up myself, though I’ll admit… the project pile is looking more like a quilted mountain these days. If yours is too, you're in good company!

The other day, I joked that without my grandmothers, I wouldn’t have a lick of talent—but that’s not quite true. They certainly lit the crafty spark in me, passing down their love of sewing, embroidery, crochet, and knitting. While they weren’t quilters, that honor goes to my beloved mother-in-law, who inspired my passion for quilting.

My parents, on the other hand, instilled grit, determination, and a solid work ethic—plus they helped raise my kids while I worked. My mom had the voice of an angel, could whip up a feast, and played the organ beautifully. I credit her for every scrap of music and domestic magic I carry.

And my dad? He’s Father of the Year in my book. He painted every room in our house more times than I can count—and now I find myself painting some of those same walls. He’s the reason I weirdly enjoy raking leaves, and he taught me all the big stuff: casting a fishing line, shooting a shotgun, driving a car (that one took nerves of steel—on both sides!).

It's been a wonderful ride, and I’m feeling mighty grateful for all the hands that helped shape mine. Now, back to the sewing machines—there are still plenty of projects calling my name!

Wishing you a great July,

WORD OF THE MONTH

INELUCTABLE

“The ineluctable pull of the new fabric collection was too strong, and soon enough, I was leaving the quilt shop with an armful of every delightful print."

DEFINITION
Something that is unavoidable or inevitable. It refers to something you can't escape or resist, like a force that will happen no matter what. Like the irresistible draw of fabric!

Each week our good friends at Machine Medics come to pick up/drop off your sewing machines.

Each week Luis (with Karen's help sometimes) brings us a word and we have to figure out the definition. It's now become a source of entertainment we thought we'd share.

Thank you for supporting Family Threads Quilt Shop! We’re excited to be celebrating 15 years in business—and it’s all thanks to you. Your continued support means the world to us, and we’re so grateful to be part of your creative journey.

Here’s to quilts, community, and many more years of stitching together! We can’t wait to see you again soon.
