Family Threads News - June (since May is already gone) 2026

Hello my friends!

Not a lot of progress to update you with—just labs, doctor appointments, and treatments. Unfortunately, I've had to reset my goal. I won't be back in June as I had hoped.

Shop Hop will be as great as ever, though, so be sure to put it on your calendar!

Lately, I've been thinking about how hard it is for my mind to accept this life of "not going to work." (Gruff is pretty anxious for me to get back too!)

I started working when I was 9. My dad moonlighted at Rooney's Liquor. It was no ordinary liquor store—they had everything! I sorted soda bottles (remember when they were worth money?), learned to run a cash register, and make change the old-school way. My dad always made sure I got a soda and a candy bar, which was a nice perk, but honestly, I just wanted to be wherever he was.

If he was going to the dump, the duck club, or out fishing, I was climbing into the truck right beside him. I spent so much time outdoors with my dad that I had hunting and fishing licenses long before I had a driver's license—or at least I think I did!

At 14, or maybe close to 15, I got a job teaching guitar lessons. From there, I held several jobs, always ready for a new challenge. Meeting new people and learning new things has always excited me. Talking to people is my happy place—if you've met me, you already know that! Keeping quiet has never been one of my strengths.

My body will get stronger, and the sooner the better. Unfortunately, nothing about this process happens very quickly, and patience is a virtue.

Hopefully, I'll have a better update to share in the next newsletter.

Thank you so much for your continued support. I appreciate your kindness more than you know.

Hope to see you soon!

EMPTY BOLTS

It may seem like a small thing, but every empty bolt reminds us that someone found just the right fabric for their next project. We never take that for granted.

We appreciate every single solitary yard that leaves our shop and every customer who chooses to spend their quilting dollars with us.

Thank you for being part of our story.

WHAT'S NEW AND HAPPENING

We do our best to keep up with social media, but not everything makes it to our feeds. That’s where the newsletter comes in — your cozy insider update on new arrivals, shop happenings, and all the fun we’re stitching up behind the scenes.

If you’d like to follow along between newsletters, you’ll find us here:

And don’t forget to tag us and use #familythreadsquiltshop — seeing what you’re creating is truly one of the best parts of our job.

Until next time, keep calm and stitch on!

WORD(S) OF THE MONTH

PROPITIOUS and DITHYRAMB

"It seemed propitious when she cut the last strip and discovered she had just enough fabric, which led to a dithyramb about how quilting math actually worked for once."

DEFINITION
Propitious (adj) — Favorable; likely to bring success or good fortune.

Dithyramb (n) — An enthusiastic expression of praise

Each week our good friends at Machine Medics come to pick up/drop off your sewing machines.

Each week Luis (with Karen's help sometimes) brings us a word and we have to figure out the definition. It's now become a source of entertainment we thought we'd share.

Thanks so much for reading. Until next month!
Here’s to quilts, community, and many more years of stitching together.
We can’t wait to see you in the shop soon.
